Torae – That Raw (Official Music Video)

“In a time where being lyrical is considered illegal, I continue to give you That Raw”

Our very own Torae has released the video for That Raw, the latest single from the recently released “For The Record”. Directed by Brian Robinson of Hyerground, the video is a three vignette story set in a time where being lyrical is considered criminal and selling “That Raw” is illegal. Scene one features “Street Hustler” Torae dealing words to a hungry customer in need his finest product. Scene two is set in an abandoned warehouse where product is being bagged up for shipping in this homage to the famous scene from “New Jack City.” In scene three, Torae pulls up to the final meeting spot, where he makes his biggest score yet – an ending that is sure to be both surprising and thought provoking.

Torae “The Children” Freestyle

In celebration of For The Record dropping on limited edition red vinyl Torae decided to go in over one of his favorite current Pete Rock beats. Enjoy.

Where To Find For The Record

The plight of an indie artist not willing to conform & go mainstream can be a lonely one. Yea I dropped the same day as Wale, but not in the same places. A lot of (not all) chain stores aren’t willing to stock indie albums anymore. It’s bad enough the majors aren’t moving a lot units so they’ll be damned if they’re gonna pick up projects with less push than that. That said most Best Buys & FYE aren’t carrying “For The Record”. Here’s a list of spots that ARE carrying the CD & to them I am grateful. If you must have a CD try one of these spots or you can order physical copies from UGHH, Fat Beats & Amazon as well as getting ‘em direct from me at shows (which shall be happening in the near future). Thanks for the support folks. List of stores after the jump.

Known for a roster of impressive collaborations, Torae has assembled an awe-inspiring crew of beatsmiths for accompaniment. From the renowned Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Diamond D and Large Professor; to those Torae labels “new legends,” 9th Wonder, Khrysis, Fatin, Illmind, Eric G., Marco Polo and Nottz.

“The combination of stellar production and a focused and more introspective Torae makes this his best work to date,” states Brooklyn legend, Masta Ace

For The Record raises the bar Torae has set with previous releases. A refreshing return to the multifarious nature of 2008’s “Daily Conversation”, the project is a notable change from 2009’s Double Barrel with Marco Polo, and this year’s mono-thematic Heart Failure EP. Fans will hear his skills sharpened; an array of cadences and intricately weaved rhyme patterns. He is also at his most vulnerable and transparent; providing a view through a wide-angle lens at the man behind the MC, as heard on “Panorama” and “Reflection.” Still there’s no shortage of the hard-hitting audacity we love on tracks like “Shakedown” and “You Ready.”

Also distinct is the absence of other voices on For The Record. According to Torae, the choice to forego lyrical assists was deliberate. “No one can tell my story like me.”

Torae – Let’s Rap ft. Rapsody

The homie Rosenberg hit me up about submitting a song for the What’s Poppin’ mixtape he was doing with Popchips. Me & Rap-Diddy had just cooked up this Khrysis produced monster “Let’s Rap” and I thought it would be the perfect fit. I Hope you enjoy.

For The Record – 11/1/11

Finally….it’s here. I’m very pleased to announce that my official debut album “For The Record” will be released on November 1, 2011. I’m sure some of you are scratching your head if you own “Daily Conversation” or “Double Barrel”. Daily was a mixtape that went on the become a retail release due to the buzz around it after “Click” & “Get It Done”. Double Barrel was a collaborative effort between Marco Polo & I. For The Record is 100% all me. Ideas, concepts, song titles, beats EVERYTHING. I’m very proud of it & hope you all love it the way I do. Tracklist, producer line up & press release after the jump.
